Anthony Vaccarello is leaving Saint Laurent after ten years. We look back at the style that defined his decade at the house.
Anthony Vaccarello is leaving Saint Laurent, closing a decade that gave the house one of the most recognizable identities in contemporary style. The departure was confirmed on October 9, with new creative leadership to be announced soon. Since arriving in 2016, Vaccarello made sharp tailoring, leather, high heels and a direct sense of sensuality central to its image. There was a clear point of view running through the collections and campaigns. You could recognize his Saint Laurent in the proportions of a jacket or the way a dress revealed the body, well before noticing a label.
Much of that appeal came from how he approached getting dressed. Broad shoulders gave pencil skirts and narrow trousers a stronger presence, while sheer fabrics brought a different tension to otherwise precise silhouettes. His work could be severe, sexy and chic within the same look. For Fall 2026, dark trouser suits shared the runway with silicone coated lace, bringing the house’s familiar conversation between masculine and feminine dressing into focus. Vaccarello understood how a change in proportion or texture could make an established idea feel compelling again. His collections offered a distinct attitude that carried through to the women who wore them.
His final collection, Spring 2027, brought that decade to a close beneath the Eiffel Tower and three towering chandeliers. Gold dominated the runway before a sequence of black looks ended the show, with trenches, pencil skirts and evening dresses revisiting the vocabulary he had made his own. Beyond the collections, his launch of Saint Laurent Productions in 2023 extended the house into cinema, working with directors including Pedro Almodóvar and Jacques Audiard. Whoever follows him will inherit a house with a firmly established image. The interesting question now is how its next designer will move that image forward.
