Royal purple is set to be fall’s chicest color trend. Stylish people are already wearing it now.
Royal purple is shaping up to be one of fall’s biggest color trends, and stylish people are already working it into their transition outfits. We saw the rich shade on the runways at Givenchy Fall 2026 Ready to Wear and Ferragamo Fall 2026 Ready to Wear, where it brought a fresh twist to the darker tones usually associated with the season. Sitting somewhere between deep violet and blue, royal purple has that moody fall feeling while still bringing a little life to an outfit. Right now, it is showing up in lightweight knits, fitted cardigans, midi skirts, bags, and shoes that work perfectly for those days when it is chilly in the morning but still warm by afternoon.
The nice thing about this color is that it works with pieces most people already own. Pair a royal purple sweater with denim, white kitty heeled sandals, and a simple tote for an everyday outfit that feels put together but not overdone. A satin purple button down with black trousers with black pointy boots can feel sleek and elevated. With black satin skirt, it becomes sleek and easy for work, dinner, or plans after work. Cream and brown also make royal purple feel lighter, which is helpful if you want to try the trend without feeling overwhelmed with the color.
If a purple coat or dress feels like too much, start with one small piece. A scarf, necklace, clutch, or pair of shoes can do the job. A white shirt and jeans suddenly look more chic with a purple bag, while an all black outfit feels less expected with purple heels. You can also mix it with red if you are feeling more adventurous (which has been a very popular mix recently). A berry red lip, red shoe, or small red bag next to royal purple creates a rich color combination that feels modern and fun. The goal is not to make every outfit purple. It is simply to give your regular fall wardrobe a little more color and personality. Below are the royal purple pieces we are loving for the trend right now:
