Is Jennifer Lopez Quietly Hinting at JLo Beauty Makeup?

Jennifer Lopez was spotted touching up her signature glow in the West Village. Could JLo Beauty makeup finally be coming?
Jennifer Lopez touching up her makeup at lunch probably shouldn’t be news, but when it’s J.Lo, there’s always a little more to look at. The singer was spotted at Dante in New York’s West Village with a compact in one hand and a makeup brush in the other, casually perfecting her signature bronzed complexion at the table. Her beauty essentials reportedly included a Tom Ford eye palette and Charlotte Tilbury’s Lip Cheat liner in a deep brown shade. It was a very normal beauty moment, but it also brought up a question we’ve been wondering about for years. When is Jennifer Lopez finally going to give us makeup?
It would actually feel like a natural next chapter for JLo Beauty. Lopez launched the brand on January 2021, after spending around two years developing its original collection and working through more than 100 rounds of product development. The concept was pretty straightforward: take the glow Jennifer Lopez had been known for throughout her career and turn it into a skincare routine. Less than two weeks after launching, JLo Beauty arrived at Sephora, with the retailer becoming a major home for the new brand. Suddenly, the J.Lo approach to glowing skin was sitting alongside some of the biggest names in beauty.
That relationship has changed quite a bit since. By early 2024, JLo Beauty had been removed from Sephora stores across the United States, although some products remained available online and through Sephora in other markets. Today, its presence at Sephora is considerably smaller than it was when the brand launched. It’s an interesting shift for a celebrity beauty line that entered the market with so much attention, and it makes us wonder what the next version of JLo Beauty might look like.
What’s surprising is that Lopez has always had an incredibly recognizable makeup identity. Long before JLo Beauty existed, there was the bronzed skin, glossy nude lip, warm brown eye, softly sculpted cheek and that almost wet-looking luminosity that helped make the “J.Lo glow” a beauty reference in the first place. Yet when she finally created her own beauty company, she went almost entirely into skincare. The closest the brand came to makeup was That Star Filter Instant Complexion Booster, a tinted illuminating formula that could be used to add glow and warmth to the complexion.
Lopez hasn’t exactly hidden her interest in makeup either. While sharing her beauty routine in 2023, she casually mentioned the possibility of eventually having her own makeup line. Nothing substantial has been announced since, but it makes these new West Village photos a little more interesting. The products sitting on the table are essentially a tiny edit of categories JLo Beauty doesn’t currently offer. A brown lip liner, warm eye color, bronzing powders and complexion products all feel incredibly natural for a brand built around Jennifer Lopez.
Maybe that’s where the real opportunity is. JLo Beauty entered a skincare market that has only become more crowded since 2021. Makeup, on the other hand, gives Lopez something far more personal to work with. There are very few celebrities whose makeup has been referenced and recreated as consistently as hers. You can look at a bronzed complexion, caramel nude lip and softly smoky brown eye and immediately understand the J.Lo reference. That kind of recognition is difficult for a beauty brand to manufacture, and she already owns it.
We also wouldn’t want a huge makeup collection from her. The more compelling version would be incredibly edited and specific to the way Lopez actually gets ready. Think one exceptional caramel-brown lip pencil, a creamy sculpting bronzer, a sheer luminous complexion tint, a small warm neutral eye palette and a really good gloss. Maybe even the sort of compact she could genuinely pull out at lunch in the West Village. Instead of trying to cover every makeup category, JLo Beauty could simply give people the five or six products needed to create the face Jennifer has been perfecting for decades.
Of course, Lopez touching up her makeup with products from other brands doesn’t mean something is secretly coming. She may simply love what she was using that afternoon. Still, five years after JLo Beauty launched, and following its much quieter presence at Sephora, the brand feels ready for another chapter. And perhaps the biggest clue about what that chapter could be has been sitting in front of us all along. We already know what Jennifer Lopez skincare looks like. Now we want what’s in her makeup bag.
